YVONNE A. EWELL TOWNVIEW
MAGNET CENTER
The Townview Magnet Center building is important for its association with John S. Chase, FAIA, who was both the first African-American to enroll at the University of Texas School of Architecture (1950) and become Texas' first African-American registered architect. Darrell Fitzgerald, FAIA served as Principal in Charge during his tenure with John S. Chase in a joint venture with Harper, Kemp, Clutts and Parker on this 360,000 square foot project. In 2011, Fitzgerald Collaborative was selected to renovate the center as part of the last Bond Program.
