CAPITAL CASCADES TRAIL RESTROOM PAVILION

Cascades Park in downtown Tallahassee offers 24 acres of outdoor and recreational features, including miles of trails. These trails for walking, running, and biking extend beyond the park, connecting users to neighborhoods, shops, and other amenities.

The Restroom Pavilion was developed for the Capital Cascades Trail on FAMU Way adjacent to a family playground, skatepark and additional walking trails.  Before developing the Restroom Pavilion the nearest public restroom was over a mile away. The 200 square foot facility is environmentally friendly and marks history as the Tallahassee and Leon County area’s first green roof building with an irrigation system served by a harvest rainwater cistern.

The massing and finishes of the project draw inspiration from the studio spaces at Railroad Square Park, just north of the Restroom Pavilion. Designed for accessibility, the restroom features two ADA-accessible family-style restrooms with changing stations for users of all ages and abilities, handling up to 400 pounds. Outside the restroom, visitors can find water and refillable bottle fountains. The site was designed with a focus on water conservation, reuse, and low-impact development, affirming Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency’s commitment to sustainability.
